When you are asked something but don't know the answer, you can use this phrase.
Shirimasen : ( I ), know,not : I don't know
shiru : know
shirimasu : know(polite)
shiranai : know not
shirimasen : know not (polite)
Wakarimasen : ( I ), understan,not : I don't understand.
wakaru : understand
wakarimasu : understand ( polite)
wakaranai : understand not
wakarimasen : understand not ( polite)
